How to Make Chords Sound Like Melodies

Learn how to turn simple chords into beautiful guitar melodies! In this lesson, we'll explore how to use three-note chords (triads) from the E natural minor scale to create melodic movement over an E minor drone. It's a simple technique that can add a whole new dimension to your guitar playing!

By playing different diatonic triads on the top three strings while keeping an E minor drone underneath, you can create interesting melodies and harmonies without changing the underlying chord. This approach is a great way to make your rhythm guitar playing more melodic and explore new sounds across the fretboard.

Once you're comfortable with the shapes, try experimenting with different combinations of triads to create your own melodic ideas. Pay attention to how each chord sounds against the E minor drone and how moving between them creates a sense of melody.
